Once in a blue moon...

Once in a blue moon....

When a month is graced with two full moons, the second one is called a blue moon. You know, the once in a blue moon blue moon. The blue moon cycle is 2.72 years, making it a special, if not rare or unexpected occasion. About every 19 years a blue moon takes place on New Year's Eve.

Diane Arbus

Diane Arbus was one of the most influential and imaginative photographers of the 20th century. Her work, which was at its peak in the 1960s, mainly consisted of commercial portraits, for magazines such as Esquire and Harper's Bazaar. Still they had her unique style and feel to them. They began to assume a distinctive look. Though taken of mainly traditional subjects -- actors, writers, activists -- they were strange and obscurely troubling. She would spend hours with her subjects, following them to their homes or offices, talking and listening to them, trying to soften them up to the point where they began to drop their public façade. Her images focus on the bizarre side of human beings. See her portfolio here.

New phase of polaroid?

When Polaroid finally yanked its trademark instant film from the market last year, enthusiasts mourned the death of instant photography. But consolation has come quickly: Fujifilm has recently released its own line of instant film cameras, the Instax. The professional wide-format model went on sale a year ago, and this past September a smaller, consumer-oriented version came out: the Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S. The Instax Mini sells for about $95, and uses Fujfilm's 800 speed Instax color film, which costs $19.99 for 20 exposures. The "Mini" doesn't refer to the camera (which is a far cry from the pocket-friendly digital cameras we're used to), but to the film: the camera pops out Polaroid-esque, credit-card-sized instant photos. Fujifilm reports that the Instax Mini has sold out at many retailers, and availability will be limited through the new year.

LITTLE BLACK DRESS

In search of a lbd.....

History of the little black dress:
Introduced by Chanel in 1926 (to be an affordable and versatile classic cocktail attire) Known as "Chanel's Ford Model T"
Because of it's affordability, the little black dress was the perfect elegant item through the Great Depression.
Hollywood continued the classic cut dress (shortening it a bit) as an elegant look for the dangerous woman in contrast to housewives in the movies.
By the 1960s actresses like icon-Audrey Hepburn donned Givenchy's lbd.
Since then it has been a staple in woman's closets running though the ages of hippies to grunge...

These days its still an essential to every woman's wardrobe and has even been making its debut in the funeral-fashion world? Yes, that is rightl. Funerals have become the new scene to show off your lbd.

Want to go to the movies?

Friday night, walking home from dinner, I found a treasure. There sitting on the sidewalk was a set of movie theater seats. Yes, old school movie seats. What they were doing on Bialik I don't know, but now they are on my balcony. A great addition to my house.

Thank You!

This is a THANK YOU to Inspire Collective to their November Reuse Project 3. They collaborated with local artists and inspired individuals to REUSE an old cinema (at Pinsker just after Kikar Dizengoff). Together over 150 artists creatively reinvented this old Tel Aviv movie theater sitting and wasting away into a colorful art exhibition for all. Inspire is trying to initiate a global social cause.

There is a really great coffee stop that sits just off Pinsker, next to this building. Now it has been made an even better location to grab coffee with a friend. Enjoy <3
